By nearly every measure, socialist candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders won the first Democrat presidential primary debate on Tuesday night, so why is the main stream media declaring Hillary Clinton the winner?
The host of the debate, CNN, proclaimed her the winner, as did the New York Times, the New Yorker, Politico, Slate, New York Magazine and Vox, Alternet is reporting. Politico cited insiders saying it was a “runaway victory” for the former secretary of state. However, every online poll taken following the contest showed Bernie Sanders winning convincingly, including the CNN/Facebook poll, which ultimately found Sanders taking 82 percent of the vote, with Clinton trailing at 11 percent.
The socialist candidate also came out on top in the Time, Daily Kos and MSNBC online polls.
Sanders even won the conservative Drudge Report online poll taking 54 percent of the vote to Clinton’s 9 percent.
Sanders indices of being Tuesday night’s winner did not stop with online polling. He experienced the most support and the most praise in the Fox News and CNN focus groups following the debate, as well. The former group, which was moderated by Frank Luntz, saw a significant drop off in support for Clinton and a rise in support for Sanders, as a result of what the panelists observed during the debate.
Another measure of Sanders’ success was the Google interest he garnered during the debate. Again, using this measure, he was the hands down winner.

From start to finish, it was Sanders. Clinton got some attention, as did Webb. But nearly every time Sanders spoke, he generated Google traffic for people searching his name. And in the immediate aftermath of the debate — a time when Ben Carson did well in the Republican debates — Sanders got his most interest of the night.
